The Beginning of a Long 2 Weeks

Our little town of Alamosa has been confirmed to have salmonella bacteria somewhere. There have been around 70 people diagnosed. They believe that the bacteria is in the water system and its just the city water so since we live in the city, starting today, we cannot use our water for anything other than flushing the toilet because they began to flush out our water to kill the bacteria. They say its suppose to take about 2 weeks to flush out the whole system and while they do that, we cannot use our water for anything other than flushing our toilet. We have alot of water to use for cooking and drinking and stuff and we also have some friends who are on well water and they have said taht we can go out there for showering if we need to so that is probably what we will do. We haven't gotten sick though which is really good so we can't complain too much. The city has taken many precautions though and none of the schools are in session for the week. Hopefully it won't take as long as they say it will.

Spring Break Trip

We were so excited for our trip this last week. We were going to be going to Arizona for a whole week!! Since we are both from there and that we are now planning on moving back, we were very excited. We started our trip on Friday the 7th right after I got off work and we drove to Durango and stayed the night with our family there so that it wasn't too long of a drive for one day. The next morning, we got up and then we left to go to Flagstaff. The drive wasn't as bad as we thought it would be and we got a picture at the border because i am a picture person and just to enjoy the moment. Anyways, we got to Flagstaff and went to our friends house where we were going to be staying. Since we are planning on going to school there, at NAU, they showed us around a little bit and then we went out to dinner with Nate's old roommate, Randon, and a bunch of other people at a place called Buffalo Wings (I think). It was good. Then we just crashed that night and the next day we went to church and basically hung out. Monday was the big day for us though. Nate had his audition to get into the School of Music that morning and we were going to go try to get everything finalized and try to see the on campus apartments we are probably going to live in. Nate did so good on his audition and the professor pretty much accepted him on the spot. That was great. Now all we have to do is get the paperwork finished so that we can see how much money he will get for next year. I am also looking for a job on campus so that we are both close together and then Nate can also get a discount on tuition too. Well, Monday night, we had gotten everything done that we needed to so we left to go to Mesa.

We stayed at my grandparents house since they are gone on a mission and we got there really late. So Tuesday, we got up and then we wanted to just take our time to get ready and then we went and met up with our adopted sister, Sam, at the mall and had lunch together and went shopping which was so much fun. Later that night, we also went and saw some other friends, Gary Paul and Richelle, and we found out they are going to be having another baby soon and we just hung out and talked with them. There wasn't much else to do then so we rented a movie and enjoyed the night just resting. Then Wednesday was the eventful day, we got up and went browsing for new furniture we would want to buy when we move and then we had lunch and met up with our cousin Rachelle at our old seminary teachers house, Bro. Hoefling. We haven't seen half these people for almost a year so there was lots of hugging and picture taking. So we pretty much spent the whole night with them. We had dinner and played a game and then Sam was having a party at her house that night so Nate and I, Rachelle, and Emily (another friend that came down with Rachelle) all went out there and had a little late night fun. The next morning we went and ate breakfast with everyone again and then we watched Bro. Hoeflings little girl for a little while and then left to go to Show Low. We ended up getting there around 6 oclock and we headed right out to Pinedale to go have dinner with my family and hang out there for the night. We played around and I went through some keepsake boxes for my mother which was fun to see me as a little kid and all the stupid things I have kept. We then headed out and went to the Whipples house which is where we stayed at and its always so much fun to see them. We love Sis. Whipple. We didn't really do much else but talk and go to bed.

On Friday, we did alot of things. Alot of times whenever Nate goes to Show Low and he has time, he likes to go to the high school and play his tuba with the band and just see Mr. Pratt, so we went and did that most of the morning and I went in and we got to see all of our little friends and even a few teachers who are good friends to us and it was so much fun. We did realize though how much we don't really miss high school. After we were done there we went and saw Nate's mom and her new apartment and just hung out and talked to her for a while. We were glad to see she was doing so good. After we left there we had planned on going to visit a few more people that night but we went and rested for about an hour and then we left and went and saw Nate's brother Joe. He was just getting off of work and so we picked him up and took him home and saw his new bachelor pad and then tried to talk him into coming and living with us when we move to Flagstaff but we'll see if he ever does. We left there so he could go to bed and then went to the Pratt's house and just talked to them and were there until 1 oclock in the morning which was alot of fun. We love them too. Then the night was over and the next morning we woke up and did a few last minute things and then got in the car and headed back home. We only went to Durango for the night and were there in the morning when my family got back from their trip and then we left so that we could get back to our ward at a decent time for me to play the piano and Nate to teach his lesson in priesthood.

Now we are so glad to be out of the car but now its back to life again and we can't wait until May so that we can finally get moved and down to Flagstaff.

Newsletter Entry

So, my side of the family does a family newsletter every month and every time I write my entry I will probably put it on here so sorry if there are things in here twice. This is from the months of January and February.

Well, it’s definitely started out as a busy new year for The Adams’s. They have had many different experiences and also a few changes in their lives. First of all, they were very saddened to hear about President Hinckley’s passing (thanks for calling mom) but they are happy that he is back with his wife and also for President Monson. He is an awesome man and they can’t wait for conference to hear from him. For them, the big change/news for us is that they decided that they are going to be moving back to Arizona. They will be moving to Flagstaff in May, hopefully in time to go to Tyler’s farewell, and Nate will attend NAU until he graduates. Nate doesn’t like the school as much as he thought he would and they figured it’s just not worth staying here since he wants to be certified to teach in Arizona anyway. They also both miss being close to their friends and family, so they are really looking forward to that.
Then, one of the crazy things that happened was that they decided one weekend to go to Durango to see their family there for their mom’s birthday and what should have only been a three hour trip back home ended up being a three day trip. There was a huge snow storm that blocked almost every way they had of getting home and they ended up staying in hotels for two nights because all roads and passes and highways they tried to take were closed just minutes before they got to them. In a way, it was a fun and unplanned romantic getaway, but they were happy to finally get back home and they now know many back roads that get you to Alamosa.
As far as the rest of their life goes, Brooke would have never thought that Nate could have so many different performances to attend or perform in. There were about 5 different jazz band and concert band performances and he also played in a faculty brass quintet. One of those performances included going to Colorado Springs where the Jazz Band played for a Music Educators conference but the best performance for the jazz band is coming up in about a month. They were selected as one of 8 colleges from around the country to go to North Texas University and perform for a jazz festival there. As this is one of the biggest jazz festivals in the country, it is a huge honor for the band to be invited to play. He is done with the basketball games though, which is nice, but he is now stressing out about his Junior Recital he has coming up in the 19th of April. He has to come up with 30 minutes of music to demonstrate his abilities on tuba for a major part of his grade. He is also trying to get ready for an audition at NAU to see if he can get any scholarships for school next year. He has also had the opportunity to do some conducting in a classroom this semester. One of the band directors nearby has had to go out of town a lot this last month and she has asked Nate to come down for a few of those days to direct her middle school bands for her so that the bands would be rehearsed by someone with experience. He absolutely loves it and can’t wait until he gets his own classroom. He is definitely keeping busy though.
Brooke has been feeling more and more comfortable at work. She isn’t too sure if she would love to do it for a living but it’s definitely a good learning experience. She is learning new things to cook and got a few more cookbooks so she is excited to try out those new recipes. She is starting to love her crock pot and is hoping to find more recipes so that they can use it more often. She did catch the little cold that has been going around. She was only sick for a day which was ok but it was nice for her to just stay at home and rest. Nate however did not recover as quickly when he caught it. He stayed home from school for two days and just had to go to the doctor because he was starting to get a sinus infection. Medicine just doesn’t work as good on him anymore.
Other than that, they were also saddened that their step grandfather passed away this last week and they were able to go over to Durango and Cortez and be with their family for what little time they could. They weren’t able to stay for the funeral and everything but they were glad they got to go over just to be there for everyone. But, now they are just waiting for the semester to end and starting to get things ready for Flagstaff. Happy Birthday to all those this last little while. Love you and hope you all are doing well.
