Merrick on the slide

A walk to the park

I have been trying to be more active and exercise a little bit so I have made it something that me and the boys can do.  About 2 or 3 times a week, about 8:30 or 9, I load the boys up in the double stroller and we just start walking.  Thankfully we live really close to a park and depending on how I feel that day, we can take a long round about route to get there or take a super quick 3 block walk to get there.  I feel good and the kids love to go to the park. The boys love the sides, the swings, and just running around the grass.  Merrick has learned to go down the slide by himself and he loves to climb all over the play set.  Kayton loves to swing, but he only lays on his stomach and pushes with his feet.  Merrick has outgrown the swing a little bit, but he likes to push the empty ones.

Merrick walking

Merrick has picked up on walking really well.  It has helped that he had Kayton running around and all he wanted to do was move with him and do what he did.  Now he can.  On his first birthday, he could take about 1 or 2 steps and then fall down but it didn't take him very long to take a lot of steps and then trip and fall and then get right back up again.  He was very determined to not crawl anymore once he got the hang of it. He walks like a pro and is working on running.  He loves to wear his shoes and he does so good with walking around in them.

Instruments

It's so fun that Nate is a band teacher.  The kids love it when he brings home instruments and they love to play with the instruments that we leave here at home.  Kayton knows the instruments names almost better than he knows his colors.  It's always a treat to go to Nate's classroom and play with the drums there.  Nate loves to go on and on about what instruments he thinks the kids will be good at playing someday.  He says that Kayton can play through his tuba mouthpiece better than some of his 5th grade students.  I think it's fun and it's such an easy thing to keep them occupied with.
