Newsletter Entry

So, my side of the family does a family newsletter every month and every time I write my entry I will probably put it on here so sorry if there are things in here twice. This is from the months of January and February.

Well, it’s definitely started out as a busy new year for The Adams’s. They have had many different experiences and also a few changes in their lives. First of all, they were very saddened to hear about President Hinckley’s passing (thanks for calling mom) but they are happy that he is back with his wife and also for President Monson. He is an awesome man and they can’t wait for conference to hear from him. For them, the big change/news for us is that they decided that they are going to be moving back to Arizona. They will be moving to Flagstaff in May, hopefully in time to go to Tyler’s farewell, and Nate will attend NAU until he graduates. Nate doesn’t like the school as much as he thought he would and they figured it’s just not worth staying here since he wants to be certified to teach in Arizona anyway. They also both miss being close to their friends and family, so they are really looking forward to that.
Then, one of the crazy things that happened was that they decided one weekend to go to Durango to see their family there for their mom’s birthday and what should have only been a three hour trip back home ended up being a three day trip. There was a huge snow storm that blocked almost every way they had of getting home and they ended up staying in hotels for two nights because all roads and passes and highways they tried to take were closed just minutes before they got to them. In a way, it was a fun and unplanned romantic getaway, but they were happy to finally get back home and they now know many back roads that get you to Alamosa.
As far as the rest of their life goes, Brooke would have never thought that Nate could have so many different performances to attend or perform in. There were about 5 different jazz band and concert band performances and he also played in a faculty brass quintet. One of those performances included going to Colorado Springs where the Jazz Band played for a Music Educators conference but the best performance for the jazz band is coming up in about a month. They were selected as one of 8 colleges from around the country to go to North Texas University and perform for a jazz festival there. As this is one of the biggest jazz festivals in the country, it is a huge honor for the band to be invited to play. He is done with the basketball games though, which is nice, but he is now stressing out about his Junior Recital he has coming up in the 19th of April. He has to come up with 30 minutes of music to demonstrate his abilities on tuba for a major part of his grade. He is also trying to get ready for an audition at NAU to see if he can get any scholarships for school next year. He has also had the opportunity to do some conducting in a classroom this semester. One of the band directors nearby has had to go out of town a lot this last month and she has asked Nate to come down for a few of those days to direct her middle school bands for her so that the bands would be rehearsed by someone with experience. He absolutely loves it and can’t wait until he gets his own classroom. He is definitely keeping busy though.
Brooke has been feeling more and more comfortable at work. She isn’t too sure if she would love to do it for a living but it’s definitely a good learning experience. She is learning new things to cook and got a few more cookbooks so she is excited to try out those new recipes. She is starting to love her crock pot and is hoping to find more recipes so that they can use it more often. She did catch the little cold that has been going around. She was only sick for a day which was ok but it was nice for her to just stay at home and rest. Nate however did not recover as quickly when he caught it. He stayed home from school for two days and just had to go to the doctor because he was starting to get a sinus infection. Medicine just doesn’t work as good on him anymore.
Other than that, they were also saddened that their step grandfather passed away this last week and they were able to go over to Durango and Cortez and be with their family for what little time they could. They weren’t able to stay for the funeral and everything but they were glad they got to go over just to be there for everyone. But, now they are just waiting for the semester to end and starting to get things ready for Flagstaff. Happy Birthday to all those this last little while. Love you and hope you all are doing well.
