Christmas Eve

What a Christmas Eve to remember.  We began with a donut breakfast at the new place in town. So yummy! When we got home, we got ready and picked up, then we made our ginger bread houses.
I was so excited for what we had planned later that night and of course things don't go the way you planned.  We lost our electricity around 5 oclock that night.  We just assumed it had something to do with the huge snowstorm that was starting, but we found out later it was a tree that fell on a power line.  Just our little section of town was out.  We thought it would be a quick fix and we could just push through it at home so we tried. Thankfully I had put dinner in the crockpot earlier that day so it was pretty much cooked by the time the power went out.  It was pretty late and dark so we found some candles and had a candlelight dinner with roast and potatoes.  I actually thought it was a lot of fun having the candles.  Maybe we will make it a new tradition.
After dinner, there was still no power so we decided to try some fun things.  We had some flashlights so since we normally watch Polar Express on Christmas Eve, we just read the book instead.  Still no power, so we played with our shadows and Daddy's big flashlight.
After that, we were starting to get pretty cold and Jax was tired, so we thought it would be fun to go for a drive and check out some Christmas lights and see what was going on with the power.  Probably not our best idea since the snow was coming down really good, but we were able to use the heat in the car.
When we got back, there was still no power so we let Jax open his Christmas jammies and we got him all dressed.  By now it was about 9 o'clock and we realized that the power was not going to come back on anytime soon, so we loaded up the rest of our Christmas jammies and the diaper bag and called the Pratt's.  They were sweet enough to take us in and let us sleep at their house.  They only had a few of the kids there so it worked out perfect. We let the boys open up their Christmas jammies and then we all watched a Christmas movie together.  We all got to bed pretty late and we found out the power came back on about 1:30 in the morning so we were grateful to have a warm house to be at.
The kids woke us up around 6:30 so they ate a little bit at the Pratt's and I ran home to make sure things were good at the house and to get a few things ready before everyone came home.  Of course we were up before the Pratt's so we tried to be quiet and snuck out to come home.  This whole time reassuring the kids that just cause we weren't home, Santa still came to our house.  They were anxious to get home and see for themselves.
It was definitely a Christmas Eve to remember but I hope we don't have to go through all that ever again.  Feeling very grateful for power right now.  Merry Christmas Eve!
