New Years Eve

We had an early New Years.  It was simple and fun.  A lot of our friends were out of town so we had one couple over and we played games and ate treats and we thought that they would show the ball drop on tv at 10 o'clock but they didn't so we made our New Years be at 10:10 with a drink of some bubbly and then continued on with our game and we were done around 10:30 or 11.  We were glad we just didn't spend the night by ourselves.

Christmas Day

It was Kayton's first Christmas!  He didn't get as excited for anything as I would have hoped, but we celebrated here at our house as just our own little family.  I must not have been thinking clearly that morning because I just captured everything on our video camera and totally forgot to pull out our regular camera so our Christmas wasn't that interesting I guess.  Kayton wasn't feeling all that well and we had just gotten home the day before from Colorado so we were all pretty tired.  Nate was on call that day too and got a few calls but over all it was a fun first Christmas for Kayton.  We got some awesome gifts from our Colorado family.  Kayton got lots of books, a cute sweats outfit, and a little snail that plays music that he absolutely loves.  Santa got him a big bag of lego blocks and he has loved those too.  Nate and I got some pancake mix from Granny.  Nate got an ipod speaker/alarm clock docking station from my dad and I got a Kohls gift card and then we also got a good amount of money combined from everyone too so we treated ourselves to some new little appliances for our kitchen.  Yay!  It turned out to be a good Christmas.

For dinner, we kind of did Christmas Eve dinner at a restaurant with our friends so I didn't cook a big meal Christmas day.  We had some of the traditional stuff but it was more low key which I appreciated.  Hope everyone else had a great Christmas.

Merry Christmas

We just got back from a trip to Colorado to see family which I will tell more about later.  But we are so excited tomorrow is Christmas and it's Kayton's first one so I am extra excited.  Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.  Here is a classic snapshot of what happened when we went to our ward Christmas party.

Christmas Vacation

We got to go to Colorado for vacation this year.  We spent a whole week at my dad's house and it was so nice to get away from our lives here and go hang out with our parents and siblings.  My stepsister and her hubby came in from California and so everyone was there.  It was so great.  We really didn't do that much besides a little shopping while we were there and of course eat Serious Texas Bar-B-Q.  The family had a lot of planned events that kept them busy and Kayton wasn't feeling too well and didn't do so good being away from home so it was a very laid back vacation.  We did get to go out and see my Granny and Aunt Cindy but all of their family stuff happened after we left so sadly I didn't get to see any of my cousins.  Sadly, this is more for journal purposes because I wasn't thinking and I didn't take any pictures, but we had fun and can't wait until we get to see our family again.

Nate Christmas Concert

Nate decided to play for a community band for fun and the one and only concert he did for them was a Christmas concert downtown.  I had fun going to it.  They played for like an hour and it was a little cold outside but it was fun to sit downtown and think that everyone could hear it even if they weren't sitting there.  Nate had fun but decided that it's too much to play in that band this semester.

Nice People

The other night we decided to go out to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner.  We were excited because it was a night out for us, but after we were there for a little bit, it wasn't as fun anymore.  Kayton wasn't doing very well and he wouldn't sit in his chair and he is teething now so that made it worse.  While we were sitting there trying to calm him down, we were trying to remember each other and we were holding hands and smiling at each other but then a little later I knew I was looking mad and frustrated and just wanted to get our food to go and leave.  Well, there was a couple sitting next to us and they finished eating before we got our food and when they got up, the wife came to our table and told us that we were such a cute couple and that we had such a cute baby and to remember that when we got home and after he went to bed, that we should just try to recreate the night of sorts.  It was so sweet and I had such a better attitude the rest of dinner.  I felt bad that I looked like such a terrible mother, but that lady just made my night by telling us that.  There are nice people out there that we don't know.

3A State Championship

Go Cougars!

Our old high school and their rival team Blue Ridge played against each other for the 3A State Championship this year.   It was so much fun!  They played the Saturday after Thanksgiving and it was here in Flagstaff at the NAU dome.  They played so well and it was such an exciting ending.  We got an interception and then it pretty much ended the game.

We won!!!!!!

It was awesome!  Kayton had fun with the music but was a little scared whenever we would scream or cheer.  We were all dressed up in our green and gold and totally showing the school spirit.  It was so great and we can't wait until we are back in Show Low so we can go to more games again.

Black Friday and Nate's Birthday

These two go hand in hand this year.  Nate's birthday happened to fall on black friday and boy was he lucky.  He really needed certain tools and there was just some amazing deals that we couldn't pass up.  (The tools were really for me though so that he could do projects around the house that I have been wanting done) So this year, I said I would do it and I did.  I went black friday shopping.  It was really simple for me actually.  I was in Show Low so there wasn't many store options and Nate's presents took up most of my budget so it wasn't too bad.  I went to Wal-Mart at 10:30 and scoped out the bins so I could get what I wanted and then stood by the one that I wanted the most so I could grab that first and then got everything else after that.  The Pratt's youngest son's Trevor and Jeremiah wanted to come with me so I wasn't alone and I had help carrying stuff.  (Loved it)  We got what we wanted and looked at maybe one or two of the crazy spots and then left.  We were out of there by 12:25 and home before anybody else even went to bed.  Then I had to get up again and be gone at 4:30 so I could go to Lowe's.  That's where the two most favorite presents for Nate were.  I got there and after much deliberation, got what I wanted and was out of there in 20 minutes. All together, we got a griddle, a little toy tent for Kayton to play in, a tool chest with tools in it, a Dremel tool, and his most favorite was a Porter Cable drill, skill saw, jigsaw and light combo set.  It was so easy and I would definitely do black friday shopping again.

For Nate's birthday, he got his presents and then we had Thanksgiving dinner on his birthday and we did birthday pie for him with everybody there.  It was great.  He said he is at that age now where he doesn't care about birthdays, but I think it's still fun to make a big deal of him.  Happy Birthday honey!  I love you so much and think you are a great hubby!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We had such a great Thanksgiving and hope everyone else did.  We were invited by some friends, the Pratt's, to come to their house for Thanksgiving this year.  It was perfect and just what we needed.  We left Tuesday night and got there pretty late because Nate needed to be there so he could go to the school the next day to see some teachers and get some observation hours in.  He had a good time and can't wait until he starts teaching for real.  We really didn't get around to doing much while we were there.  I was too excited to do my first ever Black Friday shopping so I was on the computer looking for deals as much as I could and Kayton was having fun playing with the boys and we felt like we were really on vacation.  So relaxing.  For Thanksgiving, we had dinner and stuff on Friday instead of Thursday because their aunt and uncle were coming into town later that day and we wanted to have dinner all together.
What we woke up to on Thanksgiving morning
So on Thanksgiving we went and visited Nate's Mom and Dad and Kayton is going through the clingy stages so they didn't get to hold him very much but they loved to see him.  There wasn't much else that we did.  We weren't able to see very many other people while we were there and it was ok.  Kayton had so much fun playing in a new house with lots of people that gave him so much attention.  The Pratt's have a dog and they both loved playing together and Kayton would let the dog lick his mouth and rough house with him a little bit and he had no problems with it.  It was so cute and now I really want to get him a puppy.  Well, Friday came and we had our Thanksgiving dinner!  It was so delicious and I felt special since I helped make the potatoes.  Whoo hoo.  Of course we all ate too much and I felt especially sick afterward for some reason  but it was ok by me.  It was Kayton's first Thanksgiving and he loved eating the food in his little chair and we loved sharing that with the Pratt's.  Thank you so much Pratt's.  We love you and don't know what we would do without your amazing family.

Playing in the dishwasher for the first time - Loved it!

This boy and this dog were so cute!  He totally let her lick his mouth.

The 1st Snow

In honor of this being my 200th post, I went with our first snow storm that we had here this weekend.  We were able to do some clothes shopping this weekend and since we knew the snow was coming, we got Kayton a snow suit.  It's so cute!  Well, I knew he would love some outside time so I got him all bundled up and we went outside.  He had such a hard time moving in his outfit, but he did good with crawling.  He loved it and hopefully it will snow again soon so he can play more.

Bad mommy award goes to me

So the other day, Nate and I were coming home from going to eat lunch at the cafeteria and Nate thought it would be cool to do some wheelies on his bike.  He did really good with them until he went and little too far and kind of fell off the bike.  Well in doing this, his chain came off his back tire so when we got it home, he had to turn the bike upside down so that he could fix it.  Well, Kayton was crawling around on the ground and without either of us really thinking, Kayton crawled over to the bike as the wheels were spinning really fast and his head got scratched from the tire.  I knew it would hurt and it didn't even process in my head that it would get him.  Thankfully Nate was able to catch him before it got worse.

Happy Birthday to Me

My birthday was on the 18th and it was one of the best birthdays I had in a long time.  Last year I was pregnant and got a UTI on my birthday, not fun, but this year was great.  Nate came in and woke me up at like 7 and as I was still trying to wake up he brings me out to the living room and says he has something to show me.  He had taken some of my oreo cookies and stacked them up on a little plate to look like a cake and since we didn't have candles, he made one out of a q-tip and lit it and sang happy birthday to me.  I loved it.  It was so sweet of him.  Then, he had to go off to work, so I just stayed home and relaxed and cleaned house.  The rest of the day went about as normal and then we had cake and ice cream with a bunch of our friends that night.

Then, my birthday dragged on the whole weekend because Nate's payday was the next day and we kind of needed that before we could go shopping so on Friday, I got to go clothes shopping with my friend Kimbi and then Nate and I went and did a little more random shopping on Saturday.  It was so fun shopping and I got all kinds of things I wanted including a new haircut!  It has been so long and I found a cut that I love and will hopefully keep for a long time.  It was a great birthday and a big shout out goes to my hubby Nate!

Playing with the ball

Kayton sometimes has to come to mutual with me and last week he played around with a volleyball and loved it.  It was awesome we were in such a big room that he crawled around all over and played with the girls when they weren't working on stuff.  It was just too cute.

Kayton's 1st Halloween

We celebrated Halloween yesterday.  It started off with Nate not feeling well at all so we hung out most of the morning and then I took Kayton to a pumpkin patch with our friends so I could get some pictures of Kayton with some pumpkins.  I didn't think to carve a pumpkin this year until it was too late so I just got pictures with them this time.

Last night was our ward Trunk or Treat so since Nate was sick, I took Kayton by myself.  There wasn't too many people that showed up but this year was about Kayton getting the candy and us eating it so it wasn't too big of a deal.  He dressed up as a little lion this year and I just loved it.  Too bad he can't stay this small always.  He had fun though with everyone smiling at him and telling him how cute he was.  We had fun dressing him up.

Happy Halloween!

A True Mormon Mom

I feel like that is what I can call myself now.  As a lot of you may know, we have been through lots of problems with cars lately.  It's a whole ordeal that I don't want to remember anymore, but now that we have Kayton and we know what we really need to be comfortable, we finally broke down and bought a minivan.   We promise that this will be our car probably until it dies.  I am not a fan of minivans, I have always wanted and SUV, but this is very practical and we get good mileage when we go on trips, so it will be good for our family. It's a 2002 Chrysler Town and Country and it has a lot of little mechanical upgrades that I wasn't expecting.  It definitely is much more comfortable to ride in and it should last us a long time.

Nate's playing again

Nate has become quite the entrepreneur lately.  One night about a month ago, he went to a concert that one of his old directors was putting on and by the time he left, he was asked to play in two groups.  One asked him to play in a polka band for one night.  He played at a German restaurant downtown and it turned out to be a playing gig, yay, and he had fun doing that.  Then he was also asked to play in local orchestra called Orchestra of Northern Arizona.  He rehearsed with them once a week for about a month and then they had their concert last week.  That one was on a volunteer basis but I think he enjoyed it and they came together really good for the short amount of time they practiced. He also played with another polka band/group twice and they had a gig down in the valley so we decided to all go down and make an over night trip out of it.  The second time was for a local event here in town.  Nate is definitely enjoying it and we like it when he gets the playing gigs.  Here are pics from his orchestra concert.

Going through chairs

Kayton is crawling through the dining table chair to get his binkie.  I just thought it was too cute to not share.

8 months old

Wow, my baby boy is 8 months old.  I just can't believe it.  It has gone by so fast and he is just growing like a weed.  At his last doctors appointment he was 18 lbs and 28 1/4 in long.  Super tall and average weight.  Here is a quick update on him.
  • he screams at the top of his lungs a lot, sometimes in place of talking
  • he is crawling like a pro
  • he walks along the side of the couch and is starting to play with the idea of walking
  • he loves it when he holds our hands and then walks with us
  • he sleeps so well through the night, it is so great for me
  • he has 5 teeth so far and as of today it looks like he has one more coming in on the bottom
  • he loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and gets so excited every time it comes on
  • he loves to be outside and really just to be out and about instead of being at home
  • he likes his stroller and sitting in shopping carts at the grocery store
  • he is so good at eating.   He will eat anything and he loves to feed himself.
  • he grabs food with his thumb and first finger and it's usually his left hand
  • his eyes are still blue
  • he loves his blankets, he won't go to bed without them or his binkie
  • he sits so well on Nate's lap, I don't know if he is more comfy or what but he loves it
  • he always smiles so big and so sweet when you walk in his room to get him out of his crib after a nap
  • he is definitely in a mommy mode right now.  He loves dad but will always go for mommy and he has a little problem with me leaving the room
  • he use to not want to sit up on his own, he would just sit on his bottom and lean on his arm but he loves to sit now
  • we just love him to pieces and wish we were able to see family more often
just too cute - he was watching the prophet

Mickey Mouse

So I think I have mentioned this before, but Kayton has really grown fond of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  We turn it on in the morning and he knows what it is.  When the opening song comes up, he hears it and turns and looks at the tv and starts laughing and gets all excited that it's on.  He will sit and watch it for a few minutes and sometimes he even crawls up to the tv stand and just stands there to watch it.  I love that he loves it.
