4th of July week

What a great week for us.  We love being back here in Show Low for the 4th.  When we were in the valley a couple weeks ago, we invited our friends the Zanzucchi's to come up to our house for the 4th of July.  They jumped on the opportunity and were here from Tuesday afternoon to Friday afternoon.  We all had fun hanging out and the kids entertaining each other all week.  The monsoons started this week too so we got to play in the rain.  We loved every minute of it.

We started just hanging out Tuesday night and did a little shopping then on Wednesday, we looked around for the last of our 4th of July stuff.  After nap time that day we decided to go swimming at the city pool to help cool off and give the boys a chance to run around a little bit.  The boys had a lot of fun and Kayton enjoyed getting to play and do whatever he wanted instead of having to do swim lessons stuff and what the teacher told him to do.  After we got done, we went home and changed so we could head to dinner with and old mission companion that lives in Lakeside.  So Nate, Stephen Zanzucchi, and Sean Smithson all went to the same mission and were all companions with each other at some time so all our families were together for dinner.  The boys had fun reminiscing and telling stories to each other while us wives got to know each other and the kids got to play like crazy.  We stayed up way too late, but it's fun to meet people from Nate's past.

The whole week though, the boys could not get enough of this Kinect party game that we have on our xbox.  It was a great little activity for them.

Thursday was the big day and boy were we excited.  We went to the parade at 9 am which is such a highlight for this town.  Everybody comes and since this wasn't a year that people were trying to campaign and run for political office, it was actually a lot of fun.  We sat with my family and our friends just down the road from our house.  There was lots of candy thrown and the boys had lots of fun going to chase it.  After the parade, we headed back home for an awesome BBQ lunch with steak for adults and hot dogs for the kids.  It was so yummy! Nate is a good good when it comes to seasoning and cooking meat.

The rest of the afternoon was relaxing and naps for the mom's and kids and Nate and Stephen went to the movies for a little guys time.  Then we had dinner and just tried to kill time until the fireworks started at 9.  We totally have the best location here in town and we got to walk to the little elementary school down the road to watch the fireworks on the baseball field.  We totally made it home like 5 or 10 minutes after the fireworks were over.  But we did go there like an hour early just in case they started early.  They didn't, but I'm glad we went early because the boys had so much fun playing with glowsticks and being my props while we took some fun pictures.  The fireworks started and the kids just loved it.  Merrick cuddled up to Nate and laid there the whole time without hardly saying a word.  He just stared and didn't want to take his eyes off it.  Kayton on the other hand complained that it was too loud and covered his ears for the first half of it.  I had more fun taking pictures, but overall, it was a great night.  A great way to end the amazing 4th of July.

The next day Nate and I went to a wedding while Stephen and Stacey stayed with the kids.  After we got home and ate lunch, they left to go back to the valley.  We were so excited to share the Show Low experience for 4th of July with them and hope they had fun.

We are so glad to live in this awesome land of freedom and love those who fight for us and protect us.  There may be bad times and things that we don't like, but overall, it doesn't get much better than this. Happy 4th everyone!
